The Reliquary of St. Cosmas the Hermit
In 1058 a group of Venetian merchants on Crete discovered the reliquary of Cosmas the Hermite, a Cretan saint, and decided to take it home with them. It arrived in Venice on 20th April 1058 and was placed in the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore, where it is kept to this day.
