“The Cession of Crete”
On 12th August 1204, Boniface of Monferrat, leader of the crusaders, signed a treaty with the Venetians which became known as the "Cession of Crete". Under its terms, Boniface ceded his rights over the island to the Venetians, in exchange for 1 000 silver marks and a number of other territorial concessions.
