A Frenchman on Cretan Dress
"The Greeks go lightly clad. They wear full length breeches of cotton fabric, but the rear section of the breeches hangs down lower than it should, lending them a most comic appearance... In the towns they sport slippers of red Moroccan leather which are most clean and comfortable. In the villages they wear small boots of the same leather."
