Pupils' Strike
In March 1936, pupil strikes demanding increases in teaching staff and improvements in the education system led to police intervention and orders for questioning to be carried out. The following newspaper report is indicative of the climate prevailing:

"It seems that the questioning now being carried out into the pupils' strike justifies our fears and suspicions as regards the involvement of outside, anarchist elements in the pupils' strike action."
