Upheaval
It was against this general background that the so-called "Cretan War" (205-201 BC) broke out between Rhodes and Ierapytna (modern Ierapetra) over the control of seaways and the elimination of piracy. Victorious Rhodes was supported by Knossos; extremely harsh terms were eventually imposed on Ierapytna.
