Following the outbreak of the Balkan Wars, the Greek parliament and Cretan parliamentarians decided on the union of Crete with Greece. The official unification ceremony, attended by King Constantine of Greece and Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos, took place at Chania on 1st December
