Knossos League
Within the framework of political changes wrought in Hellenistic times, unions were formed between cities on Crete and beyond. Whether these coalitions were of a political, economic or merely religious nature remains unknown, but the existence of four such "leagues" on Crete, including that of Knossos, is an established fact.

The treaty made between Knossos and Miletus in Asia Minor in 293-292 BC lists the twenty cities in the league, which included Tylissos, Rafkos, Chersonissos, Miletus, Eltynia, Herakleion, Priansos, Apollonia, Petraia and Kydonia. This league was the most powerful on Crete and extended over the whole island.
