The Provveditor General
The unlimited powers granted to the Provveditor General in matters political and military essentially rendered him in charge of administrating the entire island. His tasks included monitoring and disciplining corrupt public officials, supervision of defence and the construction of public works. In exercising his mandate, he was empowered to take any necessary action without the assent of the Venetian Senate or local authorities on the island. At the end of his term of office, which usually lasted two years, he would submit detailed reports on all matters concerning the island, as did all other high-ranking officials.
