Teachers and Pupils
Education was most commonly offered privately, with teachers undertaking to tutor pupils in their homes or at small private schools. In many cases the teachers were members of the clergy in Chandax; in 1317, Father Michalis Pediotis undertook to teach the Greek language to the son of Vasileios Charokopis, while in 1533 Father Antonios Nathaniel taught the psalter and church hymns to the son of master craftsman Georgitzis Moraitis. In addition to Greek and Latin, special subjects such as bookkeeping, music and practical medicine were also taught.
