Artists in the Ottoman Period

Despite the cultural decline typifying the period of Ottoman rule, religious art continued to beget works of note, under the lead of major artists such as Makarios Skordilis (18^th century), Georgios Stais (early 18^th century), a priest-monk by the name of Iakovos (early 18^th century) and Georgios Kastrofylakas (18^th century). Two art schools were operating in Megalo Kastro in 1818.
