Artists in the Ottoman Period
Despite the cultural decline typifying the period of Ottoman rule, religious art continued to beget works of note, under the lead of major artists such as Makarios Skordilis (18th century), Georgios Stais (early 18th century), a priest-monk by the name of Iakovos (early 18th century) and Georgios Kastrofylakas (18th century). Two art schools were operating in Megalo Kastro in 1818.
