Heraklion-based Businesses
In 1898 Nikolaos Kastrinakis founded the Kastrinakis Flour Mill. The same year also saw the establishment of trading companies named Contantinos G. Liopyrakis Ltd and G. Apostolakis Ltd. In 1904, Xenakis and Lianas set up the Phaistos Distillery, and in 1909, growing international interest in Greek sultanas led Georgios M. Diallinas to found a sultana processing and trading company bearing his own name. In 1911, Liapakis, Alepoudelis, Vasilakis and Talianis opened a pomace oil factory. One year later, Grylionakis, Anogeiannakis, Georgiadis and Associates opened "EZIK" (the Heraklion Pasta Factory). In 1913, a few months before the official unification with Greece, Georgios E. Mitsotakis opened a steam-powered olive oil factory.
