The Korais Lyceum
In 1905 a university professor named Ioannis Perdikaris founded the Korais Lyceum, one of the most historic schools on the island, which quickly gained the confidence of the Heraklion public. The curriculum placed particular emphasis on foreign languages, including Turkish, from as early as the upper grades of primary school. The school also boasted a well-stocked library and a meteorological station.
