Entertainment and Recreation
The multicultural atmosphere that came to dominate the town gave rise to plentiful, varied entertainment. Led mainly by the influence of customs and developments in the West, new forms of recreation and entertainment made their appearance in this period. Bourgeois preferences and venues differed from those of the working classes, as the former forged ever stronger links with a European lifestyle, while the latter remained more closely aligned to the tradition and influences of the Eastern Mediterranean.
