Ouzo Cafes and Tavernas
The most popular ouzo cafes were those owned by Koumantakis, Tzovenis and Papatsaras. Heraklion bons viveurs showed a marked preference for fashionable out of town tavernas such as Ta Pefkakia ["The Pines"], Oi Amygdalies ["The Almond Trees"] and Moutafis. A further alternative was provided by private dining rooms offered at To Baoulo ["The Trunk"] in Mastambas, Drakos in Poros and Pilatos in Nea Alikarnassos.
