The 4th August Regime
The Metaxas regime was a totalitarian one, typified by populism, propaganda, anticommunism and the police state. The parliamentary system was abolished and political parties outlawed. To firmly establish the regime long-term, the National Youth Organisation (Greek EON) was set up in November 1936, aiming to indoctrinate the youth in the "lofty ideals" of the "National Governor", as the dictator was often styled.
