In the inventory of five Chandax churches compiled after 1600 by Father Ioannis Komitas (G. Gerola, Topografia delle chiese della citta di Candia), it is referred to as Saint Matthew's of Marco Feouteos. According to an inscription immured above the south entrance, it was built in 1600. Notaries' records reveal that the church was built "at the toil and expense" of Mastro Nikolos Koudoumnis in the orchard he owned in the parish of St. George of Syros. It belonged to the bakers' guild.
