Four cavaliers were built on the Chandax enceinte:

the Zane Cavalier, founded above the west face of the Sampionara Bastion, a revetted structure that has since been demolished;

the Vitturi Cavalier on the bastion of the same name (now known as the Vigla, or 'lookout');

the Martinengo Cavalier on the bastion of the same name, at the highest point on the fortifications, where the famous Cretan author Nikos Kazantzakis and his wife Eleni lie buried;

the St. Andrew Cavalier, added by the Turks during repair work on the bastion of the same name.
