Having gained wide currency in free Greece, this particular architectural style was eventually to make its mark on Heraklion, as testified by the fine examples in 25th August St, Kalokairinou Avenue, N. Plastira Avenue, Evans St. and Yiamalaki St..

Typical features include symmetrical lines, tiled roofs and the use of porous stone for members and embellishments, particularly on the ground floor. Decorative thresholds around openings and panelled doors and windows are also common.
